Why is it such a bad thing to include a section over masturbation in the sex education courses? Was Joycelyn Elders really out there with that idea with a nation to prudish? | | Well, in order for it to be useful, you'd have to find a teenager who doesn't know jack. | Is it really a need of sex education at school level? Recently India's largest Board CBSE has indtroduced sex education for X class using topics like arousal, masturbation, ejaculation, intercourse and teenage pregnancy.
This has become a matter of big discussion, Top educationists, scholars, senior politicians, social activists and reputed intellectuals including former Chief Justice of India Shri R.C. Lahoti and representatives from Jains, Sikhs, Muslims, Christians and several other communities have strongly warned the Union HRD Ministry and Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) not to introduce sex education in the name of Adolescent Education Programme at all. | | Sadly yes. Teenage pregnancies can happen in any countryIts also good for teenagers to know about their bodies. It depends on how sex education is taught too.You can teach the opposite . Here we have a scheme where teenagers have to look after a baby which is a doll but they must look after it like a real baby. That would teach teenagers not to have sex and I think that could work in India. This issue is a hard one. | How can you talk to guys of 3-5 years of age about sex education? i am living in locality where i have been noticing that guys are talking about things related to masturbation.. and are getting more interested in each other bodies. i know at the age of 3 guys get curious to know about these things and each others physical development...but not publicly .. please send your suggestions how i can talk to them about these topics and how i can tell them that things like these are private and not to be discussed in front of all.i don't want to get into a detail version just to be more precise and clear so that they are easily able to understand. | Kids are pretty smart, aren't they?
At this age, one of the best things you can tell guys is that their bodies are private. It's certainly ok to talk about bodies parts....girls have a vagina and boys have a penis. Labeling body parts correctly is the best way to help guys understand.
It's also important to teach guys about good and bad touches, and that no one can touch them without their permission. If anyone does, tries to, or asks to, they need to tell an adult immediately.

All the best. | Sex Education in Schools? I would like to present a paper on what I think should be in the Sex Ed. Curriculum. Please take some time to look this over and review my information.
I'll take any suggestions, even if your opinion is opposite mine. Anything that should be added or omitted would be greatly appreciated.
Thesis: The Federal Government needs to make a mandatory sex education curriculum for all states to follow in order to eliminate inconsistencies in the content covered.
1. Sexuality should be taught as part of a healthy sex ed curriculum.
I. Male and female growth and development.
A. The male and female stages of puberty.
B. Mature and immature anatomy of the male and female bodies.
II. Alternative sexual relationships and orientations, like homosexuality.
A. Gay relationships- what is it? Same- sex relationships
B. Accurate information to acknowledge sexual orientation.
1. Discourage prejudice thoughts on homosexuality.
2. Acknowledge who is homosexual- and how they are not different in an evil way from those who are heterosexual.
III. Alternatives and healthy approaches to sex and intimacy, such as masturbation.
A. Sexual arousal and Desire
1. Hormones that cause the desire to have sex.
a. "loss of inhibition"
2. Erogenous zones
2. The consequences of sex and intimacy, as well as prevention should be covered as part of a healthy sex ed curriculum.
I. Pregnancy is one of the major consequences of sex.
A. The reproduction process.
B. Discuss the 'Trials and Tribulations' for the mother, father, guy and family.
C. Raising a family.
II. Sexually transmitted diseases (STD) is another major consequence of sexual behaviour that effects people all over the world.
A. Signs of basic- more common STDs.
1. HPV, Syphilis, Chlamydia, Gonorrhea, Herpes...
B. Discuss consequences of contracting an STD.
1. Symptoms
2. Long-Term consquences
a. death
b. serious illnesses
c. medications and treatments
C. HIV/ AIDS
3. Abstinence should be covered as part of a healthy sex ed curriculum.
I. Abstinence is refraining oneself from sexual activity. The meaning of sexual abstinence varies.
II. Reasons to be abstinent
A. Personal
1. health
2. moral
B. Religious views | Homosexuality should be covered because there are gay guys. Just because some people are ignorant doesn't mean gay guys should be kept in the dark, or that their peers should think they can't be talked about openly and without prejudice. Rephrase "alternate orientations" to "the sexual orientations". There are only two clear orientations, heterosexuality and homosexuality. Bisexuality is debatable.
Sexual behavior and sexual orientation are different. Even virgins have a sexual orientation.
Vaccination should also be covered when it comes to STDs. Hepatitis B and HPV can be vaccinated against, which is a very important fact that people don't know generally.
It's important for people to know that HPV is the most common STD and it's extremely common among heterosexual teenage girls. It's preventable and yet there were over 6 million new cases last year in America.
It should be clear that abstinence is not safe sex. It should never be substituted for comprehensive sex education. It's up to parents to preach abstinence primarily if they choose to. Schools should merely tell students that refraining from sexual activity is a way to avoid STDs and accidental pregnancy. Abstinence-only education is dangerous because it's not safe sex education.
Some people don't have a problem with total abstinence because they have no sex drive. That's true for about 1% of the population. | Am I the Only Parent Appalled by Sex Education? " Sex education instructors in Massachusettes, New York, and Toronto teach the guys " Condom Line-up" where elementary school
boys and girls are given pieces of cardboard to describe sex with a condom such as :sexual arousal: :erection: : leave room at the tip: and then all the guys have to arrage themselves in proper sequence."
" New Jerseys family Life program begins its instruction about birth control, masturbation, abortion, and puberty in kindergarten"
" Another sex-ed class in Colorado all the girls were told to
pick a boy in the class and practice putting a condom on his finger"
Experts say guyren are becoming sexual earlier and
earlier in life. well, no wonder!
Keep that crap away from my little one thank you
very much! Its not suprising so many people are
vieing for home schooling. | | I think as a parent you should be able to opt-out your guy from such classes. My suggestion would be to educate you own guys about sex. That's what my parents did, and I'm glad they did. That should be home-schooled course. Period. | Should sex education be mandatory for younger guys like middle school age? So, this is going to be somewhat long, but basically for my english class we have to have a debate about a certain topic and our topic we chose was sex education. We decided to talk about should sex education for middle school student be mandatory for about a month or 2 long class. This said, it would not just be the regular birds and the bees, periods and puberty talk, it will be somewhat more in depth then just the regular stuff..such as stds, masturbation, intensive anatomy, formsofbirth control, sex preferences, basically a human sexuality course for middle school students. our reason behind it is basically while it is alot of information and much of it has to do with mature content we want to ththoroughlyducate students on human sexuality and give them the knowledge for making decisions. there are 2 sides for and against it and im basically asking this question to get peoples opinions of this matter and why they feel they chose that. please be somewhat specific as i will be using the arguments for a class debate presentation. any opinions are welcome. Thanks a bunch!!!! | | No. Honestly, the more teachers talk about it, the more us guys want to do it. | Sex Education, too soon? Here in Toronto Canada they want to start teaching guyren about Sex in the 3rd grade...I think this is really too soon, so at age 6 we will be teaching them about masturbation and oral sex.
What grade do they start teaching sex ed in the states?
And what is your opinion about teaching sex ed to 3rd graders? | | I would guess that the school would be teaching them the very basics, and not things like masturbation and oral sex. Are you sure that you're right about the ages? In the U.S. 3rd graders are 8. I would say 6 is quite young. 8 isn't much better, but I think they probably do it because girls get their periods younger and younger now and I would imagine it to be quite terrifying for an uninformed 8 year old... ?? We learned the birds and the bees in fourth grade, but the class was separated out so the boys went into a classroom with a couple male teachers and the girls were in a classroom with a couple female teachers. We had a "sex ed" lesson once a year after that, but we were never taught about things like masturbation and oral sex. Maybe it is different where you are, but I would hope that they would be focusing on the "need to know" information and not on the extras. ;) Talk about information overload for a guy! | Good sex education (w/ videos) sites? I am 16 years old, interested in sexual activities. I am looking for good sex education sites also filled with lusty videos showing guides for such as good masturbation techniques and many others. Would you give me some? | The only sites that will show you how to masturbate will be porn I'm sorry.
However, check out (google, I'm not sure the actual URL) 'Scarlet Teen' website, it's fantastic, straight forward, non conservative, and truthful. | How can I get of rid of masturbation? I'm habitual of doing it since I was 5 & knew nothing about sex.? how come it is possible for a guy of 5 without knowing anything about sex having masturbation addiction. I have a long line of educational failures. a few months back I analysed that a few successes i got in education were in those days when i was not masturbating. but i could keep it up. and again fell in hell of failures.
i feel helpless. | It's Normal, Healthy and Okay to Masturbate!
Masturbation can be defined as self-stimulation to cause sexual sensations. The use of the word masturbation usually suggests that the person is manipulating his or her genitals to the point of intense pleasure or orgasm. (Orgasm refers to a period of intense excitement in which genital muscles enter in to a series of highly-pleasurable contractions or movements).
While masturbation can involve another person, most of us think of it as a very private act. According to some health care providers masturbation allows a healthy way to express & explore your sexuality and to release sexual tension without all the associated risks of sexual intercourse. Health professionals generally agree that this private touching is a natural, normal mode of self-exploration and sexual expression. Unfortunately, after the excitement of the moment has passed, many people find themselves filled with guilty and or shame.
Why all this guilt and shame? Actually, from American History.
A little bit of American History:
Our attitudes about masturbation have deep roots for sure. Around the turn-of-the-century, some adults were so against masturbation that they forced their daughters to wear gloves made of a steel-wool-like material (like Brillo pads) at night and to put a powder on their genitals that made them painful to touch. They made their sons wear metal chastity belts at night that made it painful to have an erection. During the 1820s male masturbation was prevented by piecing the foreskin with a wire and soldering the ends together. Boys and girls were discouraged from masturbation by the threat of blindness, madness and illness. Of course, all of these are not true.
Of course, the subject of masturbation was taboo years before the United States was created. All kinds of chastity belts and other devices were used to prevent masturbation, probably as far back in history as you can go. This will vary from culture to culture.
The Truth?
Most surveys suggest that approximately 94% of teenage males "admitted" that they masturbated and about 70% of teen females "admitted" to this also. It’s always hard to establish absolute truth in any survey on sexuality and sexual behavior, since they are influenced so much by what people think is "normal". It is important to note the word "admitted" in the results of these surveys. Doesn't that word imply something shameful about the act of masturbating? We think so. This leads us to believe that we are still suffering from the residual Victorian morals when boys and girls were discouraged from masturbating.
Teaching Masturbation -- you asked? Yes, Believe it or Not!
In the 1970's and 1980's, a woman named Betty Dodson,Ph.D., achieved much fame from her approach to masturbation. She actually held classes for women to teach them how to masturbate. She thought that in order for women to overcome certain degrees of repression that she believed were instilled by the church, women needed to learn how to "celebrate" their bodies. She made the point that masturbation needed to be celebrated, and not allowed to create guilt. She admitted that overcoming guilt was very difficult -- for men & women, especially when the guilt was instilled by the voice of their mothers at an early age. Mother's told guyren not to touch themselves "down there" and wow, what an embarrassment if the guy did that in public!
For many people the consequence of our mothers' or fathers' difficulty with our innocent sexuality when we were toddlers and infants may be the reason that the experience and enjoyment of our own bodies is taken away from us, or we are still allowed (made) to feel ashamed in some way when we feel pleasure from exploring our own bodies.
Even More Taboo...
In 1994 Dr. Jocelyn Elders - the first woman appointed to the position of U.S. Surgeon General lost her job as Surgeon General because she dared to say that masturbation should actually be taught in schools. We think her mistake was when she said, "It's practicing for sex" . She never implied that a method of masturbation be taught... or did she?
Masturbation Myths -- There Are Lots More of Course.
"Masturbation isn't "real sex" and only losers masturbate."
Just not true. According to some sexuality experts people who masturbate tend to function better sexually when with a partner since they know their own body and have fulfilled sexual expression.
If you masturbate you will go blind or bald or get acne or hair on your hands -- or lots of other anomalies. None of these have any basis in truth.
People in relationships or married don't masturbate.
Wrong again. (Many couples masturbate mutually).
"Masturbation will stunt your growth"
Nice try, but wrong again.
“If you masturbate you'll never be able to have guyren”
I get this question as an e-mail often, this is just not true, who started this myth? If that was true none of us would be on this planet.
“Can masturbation hurt me?
As the myths of the effects of masturbation have developed over the past thousands of years, some of the myths have noted that masturbation will cause harm while others have claimed positive effects. For example, it has been stated again and again that manipulating the penis will stimulate it to grow. This claim comes from the idea that touching one’s genitals causes pleasure and may result in the penis developing an erection, thus enlarging! When the male becomes sexually stimulated, engorgement of the penis with blood, or an erection , is a normal result. However, the erection is not a permanent event (fortunately!) and eventually the penis will return to its "normal" state, with or without an ejaculation (release of fluid from the genitals through the penis). The hope of some is that continued masturbation will cause the penis to become larger than it otherwise would be. Some have wondered if the penis could be stimulated to become its normal adult size sooner if masturbation occurs.
The answer is no in both cases! The size of your penis is determined by factors inherited from your parents-much like various other traits you inherit from your family. When you become a teenager and various hormones are increasing in your body-your body then changes from a guy’s body to an adult’s body-over several years. Your penis will develop into its adult size as you go from a young teenager to an older one. The size will not be affected by masturbation. If you develop an erection, the penis will get larger for a period of time, and then return to its normal non-erect (flaccid) state. However, though you cannot affect its size, you can injure your penis by very rough manipulation and/or by using dangerous instruments as part of the masturbation act.
I heard if you masturbate a lot, you can use up all of your sperm. Is this true?
This is another myth which, though might make some sense to some, is not true! When you use the term masturbation, you usually imply that orgasm occurs--in the case of the male, that means ejaculation and release of sperm as well as other genital fluids. Males often fear that they only have a very limited amount of sperm and that it is easily used up, making them less of a man. It is also another example of myths that have developed indicating a negative result from masturbation. Over the past centuries, doctors and various members of society were so convinced and worried that masturbation was harmful, that doctors developed various "treatments" for those who masturbated. These treatments included removing the testicles, placing the person’s penis in a ring with spikes in the center to cause terrible pain during erection, and other very harmful measures.
Well, it is important to point out that masturbation is a normal aspect of one’s sexual behavior and does not harm you unless you do it to the exclusion of other behavior and/or injure yourself because you are too rough. Most males have plenty of sperm and masturbation (with ejaculation) will not cause a decrease in their sperm. If someone is touching their genitals a lot, it may be because of medical problems, such as having certain infections or a severe itch for some reason. This is sometimes found in young guyren who touch themselves a lot because of a constant genital discomfort. But, do not worry that masturbation will affect your sperm count or your ability to someday have guyren. It will not!
None of these myths are true. And while there will always be those who make religious or moral arguments against masturbation -- if you are Catholic you may have been taught that it is “sinful to spill seed” or masturbation is “seed wasted”. So, that is something you will have to decide for yourself. When done in moderation, masturbation seems to be a common, "normal", healthy way to get sexual satisfaction. It is one that is safe and does NOT run the risks of pregnancy, STDs or incompatible sexual preferences. But, use good sense while masturbating. If you are sore from spending TOO much time with yourself -- stop and let your body heal. Getting irritated skin is not uncommon, so don't panic and use plenty of water soluble lubrication next time. (Like Astroglide ® or Wet ®). If irritation persists see your health care provider. Remember, lubrication! Especially you guys (or gals using a vibrator).
If you are spending a lot of your time masturbating and it is interfering with your school work, your job, or the rest of your life, then you might want to stop and think about why you are doing it so much. A person can become obsessed with anything.
Are there benefits to masturbation?
Yes. Masturbation can help relieve stress and:
Relieve menstrual cramps
Help for insomnia (i.e. when a person is having trouble falling asleep)
Stimulate the immune system to help build up resistance to common infections.
Release mood elevating hormones
Reduce embarrassing spontaneous erections for teen males
Reduce the number of unwanted wet dreams for young men | Sex education only for girls and not for boys?? my girlfriend said she has received sex education from her mom twice.once while she was 11 and asked her mom about "some sticky substance coming out of her vagina"&again when she was 14&the secretion occurred.she says both the times she asked her mom about it.the 1st time she asked, her mom told her it happens when u get excited, its normal&its concerned with pregnancy.she says she could not understand much then.again when it happened when she was 14,she asked it to her mom,who told in detail about penis and vagina and the process of sex and everything related to it.but i didnt had that privilege.i had to depend on magazines and newspapers to give me a correct&educated view of sex.so in most cases in india,do only girls get sex education at home because of obvious physical changes?i was afraid to ask about masturbation to anyone and was guilty about it.but her mind would have been so clear, thanks to her mom.i didnt even knew that the secretion from my penis was sperm till much later. | | Sex education mostly depends on the parents and not on the sex of the guy. Many teens aren't taught about sex because parents feel uncomfortable or they figure that you will learn about it elsewhere. If you have questions ask your parents or an older male. |
